Bio:
Sylvetta is a Marriage and Family Therapy Intern who is currently pursuing her master’s degree at Capella University. Sylvetta is a member of American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, The National Society of Leadership and Success, and Pi Chapter, Delta Kappa - The International Marriage and Family Therapy Honor Society. Prior to, Sylvetta obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Anthropology, with a minor in Criminal Justice, from Western Carolina University. Additionally, Sylvetta works as a direct support professional in an adult day program that serves an aging population and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As the Behavioral Health-Associate Professional, Sylvetta spearheads the clinical aspects of services for the adults with an IDD diagnosis from a person-centered perspective.

Counseling Approach:
Sylvetta acknowledges that the therapeutic space calls for vulnerability which may be a new experience for some and does not automatically equate to clients being comfortable or feeling safe. Sylvetta wants to collaborate with clients to establish trust, cultivate their ideal therapeutic experience/space, and increase their comfortability with opening up about the reality of their circumstances and life experiences. Her approach is centered around collaborative therapy, in the position of conversational partner, the goal to foster rapport and relationships through dialogical conversations that will promote a partnership in the exploration of thoughts, experiences, values, beliefs, and more. This stance allows Sylvetta to embark on the beauty and flexibility that comes with therapeutic relationships and conversations. By honoring a client’s reality, Sylvetta will be able to work alongside clients to create new meaning, establish understanding, and contribute to their desired goals or change.

Sylvetta enjoys spending time with loved ones and loves playing video games with family and friends in her free time.
