Family Financial Settlement (FFS) Mediation

Helping You Find a Path Forward

When relationships change, the decisions that follow can feel overwhelming. Separation, divorce, and financial disputes often involve more than numbers—they can involve years of shared history, strong emotions, and significant decisions about the future.

Natalie Atwell Consulting now offers Family Financial Settlement (FFS) Mediation services throughout North Carolina, providing a structured, respectful, and neutral environment where parties can work toward resolving financial matters and reaching mutually acceptable agreements.

What is FFS Mediation

Family Financial Settlement Mediation is a voluntary, confidential process designed to help parties resolve financial issues outside of the courtroom.

Rather than placing decisions entirely in the hands of the court, mediation gives participants an opportunity to have meaningful conversations, identify areas of agreement and disagreement, explore options, and work toward solutions that are practical for their individual circumstances.

Mediation may be appropriate for individuals navigating:

  • Divorce or separation
  • Division of marital or family assets and debts
  • Financial disagreements
  • Property-related financial issues
  • Other family-related financial disputes
  • Parties who want to explore settlement before proceeding further through litigation

A Different Approach to Difficult Conversations

Conflict can make it difficult to communicate clearly or make decisions. My background in counseling and family dynamics provides an additional perspective when facilitating challenging conversations.

As a mediator, however, I remain neutral.

I do not represent either party, provide legal advice, or provide therapy during mediation. Instead, my role is to facilitate communication, help parties identify areas of agreement and disagreement, and assist them in working toward resolutions that both parties can consider.

The goal is not necessarily to make everyone happy. The goal is to create a fair, informed, workable path forward.

Why Consider Mediation?

Mediation can provide an opportunity to:

Reduce Conflict
Have difficult conversations in a structured environment rather than allowing conflict to escalate.

Maintain Greater Control
Work collaboratively toward solutions rather than having every decision determined by the court.

Save Time and Expense
Resolving issues through settlement may reduce the time and financial costs associated with prolonged litigation.

Protect Privacy
Mediation provides a more private setting for addressing sensitive financial and family matters.

Create Practical Agreements
Develop solutions tailored to the circumstances and needs of the parties.

Move Forward
Reach resolution while creating a clearer path toward the next chapter.

For Individuals, Couples & Families

Every family situation is different. Mediation may be helpful whether you are beginning the separation process, working through unresolved financial matters, or looking for an alternative to continued litigation.

You don't have to agree on everything to begin the conversation.

You simply need a willingness to explore whether resolution is possible.

For Attorneys & Professionals

Natalie Atwell Consulting welcomes referrals and professional collaboration with North Carolina attorneys, family-law professionals, and other professionals who serve individuals and families experiencing separation, divorce, or financial conflict.

Attorneys may continue to advise and represent their clients while mediation provides a neutral setting for settlement discussions.

My goal is to complement the work of legal professionals—not replace it—by providing a professional mediation environment where parties can work toward resolution.
