Bio:
Jay is currently a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern, pursuing his master’s degree at North Carolina Central University. He received his bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Pennsylvania and has served in the corporate and educational sectors for several years. Jay currently works as a career coach and a licensed minister. He has previously served as an elementary teacher and restorative practices coordinator.

 

Counseling Approach:
Jay believes that every person is created with a unique purpose, and therapy can be a tool to identify, activate, and sustain life’s purpose. Jay views counseling as a positive collaborative process where the counselor facilitates a space for clients to unapologetically speak, reflect, and problem-solve. During therapy, Jay uses an eclectic approach, primarily focusing on Cognitive-Behavioral, Person-Centered, and Solution-Focused therapy through an existential lens. The use of techniques and interventions vary depending on the presenting concern.

 

Specialties & Population Served:
School-aged children to adults; individuals and families; anxiety, depression, burnout, Christian/faith-based counseling (upon request), identity, relationship issues, career/work issues, life transitions.

 

Fun Fact:
Jay is a multi-instrumentalist (10 instruments) who has a passion for faith, family, fitness, and food! He and his wife, who is a psychiatric nurse practitioner, have plans to start a church that includes a mental health clinic.
